JOINING THE IABM

The International Association of Broadcast Meteorology was established in 1994 to provide a voice for all those involved in broadcasting weather to the public. That encompasses both meteorologists and journalists and those who support them such as production staff. Membership of the IABM is spread through more than thirty countries throughout the world. (there are special conditions for members from developing countries

Given the international nature of the Association, its members come from a great variety of backgrounds. Some work directly with national Meteorological Services, some work directly for broadcasting  companies. Some members work with private sector weather service providers; many work freelance. Many of our members have come from the tradition of news journalism; others from an academic background in meteorology. The unifying factor is the desire to provide the best possible weather service to the viewing, listening and web accessing public.

The IABM recognises that weather broadcasting is a multi-faceted, multi-skilled job, requiring expertise in meteorology, journalism, presentation, and broadcast technology in order to provide the best possible on-screen and on-air weather forecasts through the media of television and radio.

Joining the IABM helps to strengthen the voice of weather broadcasters, the voice of your profession. - HOW TO JOIN
